I hear this question constantly from brilliant, hard-working corporate professionals who have hit a ceiling. They feel stuck. They want better
opportunities, more motivation, or a completely clear path forward. They believe the next breakthrough will come from a new job, a better
team, a different company, or finally finding the perfect strategy.

But here’s the truth.

They are asking the wrong question.

When we look for external breakthroughs, we give away our leverage. We wait for the world to change instead of changing our approach. We
search for better circumstances instead of examining what we can control right now.

In my new book, The Tao of Progress, a worker named Jordan has a chance meeting with a mental performance coach just as he feels his
career has stalled. He wants quick answers. He wants a roadmap. He wants someone to tell him what to do.

Instead, Coach gives him a different question… one that changes everything:

“What am I choosing to avoid right now because it is uncomfortable?”

That question forces Jordan to look inward. It shifts the focus from what’s missing in his circumstances to what he’s been avoiding in
himself. It opens the door to real growth, not temporary relief.

Your thoughts are not facts. Your expectations are not destiny. And your current circumstances do not get the final word on what you can achieve.

Knowing what to do and learning how to live it are two completely different things. If you are tired of running on the hamster wheel of
modern expectations, it’s time to change the questions you ask yourself every morning.
